  1. New pilots need effective mentoring until they are well-established and confident.
  2. Pilots cannot rely on GPS only to fly night VFR.
  3. Night flying is made even harder by New Zealand’s microclimates.
  4. Always have a Plan B.
  5. Keep flying the aircraft – never give up.

A significant outcome of this accident has meant the EMS industry  has moved to the use of NVIS (Night Vision Imaging System) which has improved safety.
